A Beautiful and Busy Weekend

Evelyn and I made it back from Branson just in time to head out for the weekend with Calvin's baseball team.  They had their first tournament in Manhattan, and I'm pretty confident that the boys were more excited about staying in a hotel with all of their buddies than the actual baseball. Before their first game of the day, they were already busy playing some sort of football game in the common area of the hotel.
We headed to the ball complex, and the Junior Eagles took the field!  As this was their first tournament, their coach let them try out multiple positions.  Calvin played 2nd base, shortstop, center field, and pitcher before the day was through.
Of course, he also had several at-bats.
The boys played hard all day and enjoyed a well-deserved hot tub when we returned to the hotel!
This hotel was perfect for a big group of friends.  The boys played hide-and-seek tag and 'capture the flag' for about 6 hours, I think!  And the girls all had fun playing with their toys while the adults hung out by the pool.
Russ played some pool with our boys, and even took them bowling after we girls went to bed!  Talk about a fun day!
 He's such a great daddy.
The next morning, we were up bright and early for an 8:00 a.m. game.  It was a little chilly, but after a very warm Saturday, it felt great!
Calvin played 3rd base in this game.  Unfortunately, it was single elimination and we didn't make it out of the first round.  But it was still a great weekend and we had a lot of fun, which is the most important thing!
Because we were done earlier than we'd planned, we were able to make it back to our church in Lawrence for the 11:00 service, and then make it home for the annual Breast Cancer 5K sponsored by our high school Stuco.  We've participated in this walk for most of the last 10 years, and it's always a great event.  The boys were a little tired after the busy weekend we'd already had, but they toughed it out and joined us for the walk (or some of it, anyway -- they ended up stopping at the park when we walked by to play with their friends).
After the welcome and prayer, we released pink balloons to honor all of those affected by breast cancer.
About half way through, we met up with Syd, who was manning a much-needed water station.  The day may have started out a bit chilly at our 8 a.m. ball game, but it warmed up nicely by 2 p.m.!
What a beautiful and busy weekend! It felt like summer with the weather and the fun -- only another week until it really IS summer!
