Car Show & Zoe's Bake Sale

After missing last year's Car Show because of Covid, we were extra-excited to have all of the fun and fancy cars back on the bricks this year!  I'm thankful that we've been able to help with Zoe's Bake Sale to raise money for UMDF (United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation) for the past 10 years as well.  It's always such a fun night!

The best part of the bake sale is getting to hang out with my friend Cindy, and Violet seeing her buddy Zoe.

Calvin was at the football game, but Oliver and Evelyn also found plenty of friends to hang out with.

It was a fun evening for all!

Back to School!

The Dwyer kids went back to school this week and it was a GREAT week!  We had "Meet the Teacher" night at the elementary, our sweet Evelyn stood alone for the first time by the Wellsville Elementary School sign :(

Her teacher is new to Wellsville, but not new to teaching.  Mrs. Scoma has taught with Joy in Gardner for many years, and I know Evie will have a fabulous year with her!

The boys took full advantage of their last few days at home and had a perpetual party at the house.  I love how the downstairs look when the boys "rearrange" for some football. I love all of these boys so much!

Sunday evening, we ordered some El Patron to celebrate the start of a new school year.  I continued my tradition of reading this letter reminding the kids that all of their classmates are gifts from God and we send them to school to learn how to be kind and compassionate to others.  I hope someday they will read this letter to their children the night before school starts.

So Monday morning, we woke up to this gorgeous sunrise -- God was telling us that he's preparing a great day for these kids!

All dressed and ready to go! (This was actually not officially the boys' first day of school, although Oliver did go as a mentor to the incoming 6th graders -- these boys of mine are good sports about getting up early to read our Bible and take pictures!)

Once the pictures were done, Calvin promptly went back to sleep.  Then we took the kids to school, first Oliver and Violet were dropped off at the Middle School.  I honestly can't believe that Violet is old enough to be standing next to her brother, starting 6th grade!
I'm so thankful for Jean Patton, her life skills teacher.  Jean took great care of her this summer during summer school, and I know she loves Violet so much already.
And that left just Evie in the car to drop off at the elementary.  Still trying to wrap my brain around this.
After dropping the kids off, Russ and I went on a peaceful morning drive where God treated us to another masterpiece in the sky.
It was just a half day, so it wasn't long before we were picking kids up again.  Violet was SO excited when we got there; it was obvious she had a great morning!  I got a couple pictures with friends before we left to get Evie.
Evelyn's teacher sent this silly pic of their class on the first day.  Evie has lots of friends in her class and is really excited for this school year.
The boys discovered that the Chick-fil-A truck was going to be at City Hall, so we all continued to celebrate the start of a new school year with a yummy lunch!
Then the boys came home to relax for a bit before their first real football practice.  After doing weights and conditioning all summer, they are pumped for the season to get started!
Tuesday was Calvin's first day, and the first time we put Oliver AND Violet in Rooney to ride to school with Calvin driving.
Violet wasn't so sure about this, but she did just fine.  And I wasn't so sure about her walking in from the student parking lot, but Oliver is such a good brother.  He said he would make sure she did okay, and she did.
Something the kids missed out on all of last year because of Covid was school dances, so these kids were thrilled to discover they would have the traditional back to school dances this year.  The Middle School dance was on Thursday evening, and I wasn't sure if Violet would want to go, but she made it very clear to us that she did!  Look how gorgeous my middle schoolers are!
Violet has the BEST group of girls in her class.  They are beautiful inside and out.
Principal Kindle held the door open as Oliver and Violet headed in.  Mrs. Patton stayed at the dance with Violet to make sure she did okay, and I was fully expecting to get a call to come get her.  But I didn't!  Violet stayed the whole time and had a blast!
Calvin's high school dance was last night, but no pictures of him.  I know he had a good time, though.  And that's a wrap on the first week of school 2021!  I love these kids SO MUCH and I'm praying this is the best school year yet!

Rocky Railway VBS

We didn't get to do VBS last summer because of Covid, and it didn't look very promising that we were going to have one this summer either, which made me super sad.  When I was asking the other ladies on the education board what options we might have, someone suggested we could possibly do a one-day event in conjunction with Rally Sunday (which is the start of a new Sunday School year).  I LOVED this idea and ran with it.  So yesterday we had our Rocky Railway VBS, and it felt so good to sing and play and share the love of Jesus with the kids!  I borrowed some awesome decorations from a couple other churches and we got everything set up on Saturday.

I used a pair of Grandpa Jerry's old overalls and borrowed a hat to finish my conductor ensemble.  I think we're ready to board the Rocky Railway!

Once again, I led the Sing & Play portions of the VBS, where we imagined we were on a steam train in the Rockies.  We learned about some cool animals that live in the mountains, danced along to some awesome music, and most importantly, learned about Jesus and his power in our lives.

We played some fun games with a train theme. . .

. . . and ate our lunch in the dining car.
Craft time is always a favorite time for my Evie girl!  Violet just likes hanging out with Margaret and Deb.  They are such wonderful church grandmas to my girls!

Azure, Sandra, and Sharon led our Bible Adventures where the kids learned that Jesus' power helps us to do hard things and gives us hope for an eternity in heaven with him! (And Violet thought Brandon's yellow mustache "disguise" was hilarious!)
We had a wonderful VBS learning about how Jesus' power will help us through all of life's circumstances !  I didn't realize how much I loved VBS until we weren't able to do it.  I'm so thankful for the memories my kids have going to VBS every summer and I'm thankful for everyone who helped make it such a success!
