Fun at State Volleyball!

We've had fun cheering on Sydney and the Eagles volleyball team this season!  Last weekend was the substate tournament and it was on our home court, which made it all the better.  The decorations outside got everyone pumped up for the tournament!
Syd had some cute little cheerleaders inside, too!
Even while playing volleyball, Sydney always has a little basketball in her.  Look at that follow through on her pass!
She was such a good defender on the back row.
She is a full head shorter than several girls on her team -- together they sure made a great team, though!
Substate day had a very happy ending as the Lady Eagles won a trip to the state tournament!
Celebrations continued for quite some time after the last point was scored.
The team had a week of practices and then we met at the school for their send-off yesterday.
You got this, #5!
Loading up to head to Emporia!
Pretty cute little cheering section!  Brynnie was able to come with Grandma Cheryl and we loved having her there.
It's looking pretty official on the big screen!
Opening ceremonies -- There's our Sydney!
Look who else came out to support Syd -- Dana, Ella, Ross and Grayson!  Evie couldn't have been more pleased.
The first match against Nemaha Central was hard-fought, and the Lady Eagles came out with the victory!
We had quite the break between our first and second matches, and the kids had plenty of fun playing outside on this gorgeous Friday afternoon!
Time to head back in to watch the second match!  The White Auditorium brought back memories for me as this is where our State FBLA conferences were held back when I was in high school.  I hadn't been in this building in nearly 20 years!  It provided a great atmosphere to cheer on our Eagle volleyball team.
Our second match against Douglass was also very close and well-played.  Once again, our girls came out on top in 3 sets.  At this point, we knew we'd have about 2 hours before their final match of pool play, so we went back to our hotel to relax and eat some dinner.  The last match against Cheney didn't end up starting until after 10:00 p.m., and we hung out with plenty of other Wellsville fans outside until game time.  My boys played LOTS of football during this volleyball day.
The final match once again went to 3 sets. Sydney had some amazing digs and played really great defense.
It was such a long day and these girls all played their hearts out.  They ended up a little short against Cheney, and unfortunately the tie-breaker didn't go their way, so although they went 2-1 in pool play, they didn't advance to the semi-finals.  It was heart-breaking and the exact scenario that occurred 19 years ago when I was a senior at our state volleyball tournament.  All of Wellsville was SO PROUD of the season these ladies had -- they were so much fun to watch!
. . . and we are especially proud of our very own, #5!  We love you Sydney and we love watching you play!

Halloween Pre-Parties

Our Halloween parties got off to a great start on Wednesday, first with Evelyn's party at the library.  She and Carly made the prettiest princesses in all the land!
As usual, Miss Robin had all sorts of fun games and books for the kids. . .
. . . and Uncle John kept everyone entertained with his reading, as always.
Look at all of these cute kiddos ready for Halloween!
The baseball player with Princess Elena of Avalor!
Craft time. . .
. . . and snack time.  Yummy treats!
What a fun morning at the library!  Love these sweet princesses!
Evelyn was only out of her costume for a few hours, and then it was time for Trunk-or-Treat at Midweek at church!  Grandma Cheryl came out and brought our princess some beautiful gold earrings and she loved them!
Lots of fun trunks and lots of yummy treats!
The best trunk was definitely Grandma Cheryl's!  Violet really wasn't sure what was going on.
Halloween is off to a great start!

Fall Harvest

There are so many things I love about fall, and one of them is going on right now: the fall harvest!  I should clarify that the men are currently busy with the fall bean harvest, but the fall corn harvest took place a couple of weeks ago.  Uncle Ken farms Virginia's ground just to the west of our house, so we were able to watch him harvest the corn from our driveway.

All full, time to dump!
So that was to the west, and now we're looking to the east as the beans are cut.  For the first time ever (I think), there was a yellow combine working on Dwyer farms.  Grandpa Denny had some bad luck with his newest (and biggest) combine and it needed some repair work, so a Caterpillar Challenger was enlisted to help get the harvest started.
Scott's "new" Case IH joined in and the duo made a great team!
If you look closely, you can see our house and shed to the left in this picture. . .
. . . and this was our view from the deck as they were finishing up the field between us and Scott & Joy.
Happy Harvest to all!
