One Final August Birthday!

So last weekend we celebrated some of the birthday GIRLS in the family. . . Today, the last day of August, is a day dedicated to the THIS GUY!  Yes, the baby who my mom brought home from the hospital as I beginning my 4th grade year is now 27 years old!
This morning was Story Hour at the library, and Uncle John comes and reads to the kids nearly every week.  We love having him at the library!
We had birthday cupcakes and at least a dozen toddlers sang Happy Birthday to their favorite library reader!
This little girl is so lucky to have such a fantastic uncle and godfather!
We love you, John!!  Hope your day was #constantlywonderful, #constantlyhappy, and of course, #contantlypositive!!

August Birthday Beauties!

This weekend we got to celebrate some beautiful ladies in the family as they added another candle to the cake.  First we got together at Grandma Jo and Grandpa Denny's on Saturday evening to spend some some time together as a family and celebrate Aunt Dana.  The men enjoyed some time outside seeing who was the best target in hitting the can.  I think the Dwyer boys had a couple of good shots before they were done.
Then we enjoyed a yummy turkey feast with dressing and potatoes and all the makings of Thanksgiving!
Evie and Grayson played and had so much fun all evening long.  These two really love each other.
The big boys went back outside after dinner, climbing trees and getting plenty dirty.
Violet didn't leave Grandma Shirley's side; Grandma was a good sport about her Violet shadow.
Sydney had just brought home the first volleyball tournament championship of the season and was at a team dinner, but Joy and Jackson represented with their Lady Eagles volleyball shirts.
And there's the birthday girl!  I had to reach down low to make this K-State cake for her, but I think it turned out pretty cute.  And Russell also celebrated his birthday just a few days before our dinner, so I let him have a small part of the cake as well :)
It rained briefly and gave us this beautiful rainbow!  Wow, sometimes God really outdoes himself!!
We went from the party Saturday evening so another party Sunday afternoon.  This one was for the youngest Deterding girls, Brynn and Kyla!  Yesterday was Brynn's actual birthday; I can't believe she is already 8!  And how about this peanut, Miss Kyla Kay, who will be 5 on Wednesday?!?  I love these girls so much.
Both Brynn and Kyla are totally into Shopkins, so they had an All-Things-Shopkins birthday party.  Grandma Cheryl even managed to make a Shopkins cake AND cupcakes with tattoos!
These girls cleaned up in the present department -- toys and clothes and shoes and beauty supplies -- they are all set!
Then it was time for cake and homemade ice cream!  Despite what this picture looks like, Brynn really WAS happy!
Make a wish, beautiful birthday girls!
Once we've celebrated Brynn and Kyla's birthdays, I know we are under a month until we'll be celebrating the birthday girls in our house once again!  I just love that we are able to get together as a family on these special occasions -- family really is what makes these special days extra special!!

JM&MB Go Flying in a Chopper!

So the last post on the Car Show gave a little preview of the coolest thing ever. . . My boys and I got to go up in a helicopter!  The wonderful organizers of the Car Show brought out the folks from KC Copters to give people the unique opportunity of seeing our town from a bird's eye view!  Three could go at a time, and since Daddy said he never cared to go in a helicopter ever again (after we'd flown over glaciers in Alaska in 2004), it looked like a great JM&MB experience!  We took off from the high school, right in front of the gym -- how cool is that?!?
I loved how the boys were ducking from the huge whirling blades, as if they were anywhere near tall enough to hit them.
When we realized that there were no door on this helicopter, the boys were super excited for the extreme adventure. . . Mom, on the other hand, was a little freaked out! ("But we are buckled in, Mom!")
In no time, we had our head sets on, and had lift off!  There are little-bitty Daddy, Evelyn, and Violet watching from in front of the school.
Aren't they cute in their headsets? And isn't it a little freaky how there are NO DOORS?!?
Our pilot said he'd been flying for 10 years, which made me feel better. I didn't want to have to figure out what all of these controls meant!
He took us a loop around down town, which was so cool!  I loved seeing all of the activity with the Car Show going on.  The boys loved waving great big outside of the chopper, and trying to hang out since there were no doors and all.  This is the view looking northeast.
And this is the view looking back to the south.
After circling downtown, we headed toward our house, passing the elementary school on the way.
It was crazy how fast we made it to our house!  I loved being able to see Virginia's huge pond in the background.
We circled around our house and got a good view from every angle.
If you look closely, you can see the shadow of our helicopter on the house by the garage.
Of course, we passed Joy and Scott's house on our way back to town.
Back downtown, the boys thought the pool looked really cool from up here.  And look at all of those cars at the Car Show!
These boys had the time of their lives.  I loved listening to their non-stop chatter through the head sets.  And Oliver just kept letting out squeals of delight -- it really was so awesome!

We loved the chance to see our town and home from this angle!
And I especially loved getting to have this experience with my boys!  It was definitely a "bucket list" item!!

Car Show and Bake Sale!

Last evening was one of my favorite Wellsville events, the annual Car Show!
One of the reasons I enjoy this event so much is because this is when we meet up with our friends who host "Noah & Friends Lemonade Stand and Bake Sale" in honor of Violet's friend, Zoe.  We don't get to see the Kavans as often as I'd like, and this is always a great time to catch up.

The Bake Sale is always set up conveniently in front of Russ' office, and is very popular with all of the visitors to the car show.  My kids definitely enjoyed lots of the yummy baked goods.
Violet was so happy to see Zoe!  These girls have known each other almost since birth and it's so wonderful to see them growing up together.
Zoe's big brother Noah, and his friends!
While Russ and I and the girls strolled around, checking out cars and visiting with friends, we let the boys run around with their buddies.  I think this is my favorite part about living in a small town.  I feel completely comfortable letting them take off with their friends without having to know exactly where they are every second.  There are plenty of eyes around, keeping an eye on them even when I'm not.  It turned out that they found their way to the park and were playing football and basketball for awhile.
They worked up an appetite and got some yummy kettle corn -- as well as hot dogs, walking tacos, and ALL of those baked goods at the bake sale. . .
. . . and sno cones!  The boys were so excited that Sno Shack in the Back re-opened for this one event!  These kids definitely enjoyed themselves at the car show!
We adults had a great time as well.  There was a really good turn out; seemingly the entire town was on the bricks!
See the helicopter flying overhead?  More to come on this. . .
It was another AWESOME Car Show and Bake Sale -- I just love our little town so much!!
