For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over His kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. Isaiah 9:6-7
We celebrated the birth of Jesus with my family on Sunday, and we were also lucky enough to get to celebrate a Chiefs win all in the same evening!
Since the game wasn't close, we were able to sneak outside for our family pictures.
Although John & Becky stayed inside, it really was another gorgeous day! There's a sunset picture to prove it.
You may have noticed we are missing a family. Unfortunately, Ty got Covid the week of Christmas, so Kyle & Sara's family got lots of family time as they quarantined together. Remembering last Christmas when Calvin had Covid and we were quarantined, I would never have guessed we'd still be dealing with this a year later! Thankfully, he didn't get too sick and no one else got it. We enjoyed a delicious Mexican feast. . .
. . . and then Jack read the Christmas story from Luke (as Kyle & Sara's family was FaceTimed in).
Then we got busy passing out gifts.
Grandma got matching KU stocking cap and scarf, and Kyla & Evie got matching gnome Squishmallows.
Evelyn also got her very own Dudes shoes! And Vi got a Christmas tree Squishmallow that she was very excited about.
Violet was so much fun to watch. She got excited about EVERY gift, even the underwear. "Oh, panties!! I needed these!!" I wish I had recorded her enthusiasm about the underwear.
Dad got the family calendar. . . and some new pink golf shorts. Ty got a matching pair, and these Deterding men will undoubtedly be the talk of the Osawatomie golf course.
The boys got some cool new clothes and shoes.
Grandma and Grandpa gave a special gift to each of the grandkids: a 1920s silver dollar that was from my Great-Uncle Carl's collection.
Seeing that 1922 coin made me think ahead a bit to 2022. While 2021 hasn't been at all what we would've hoped for in a lot of ways (with the pandemic and the friends we've lost to this virus), we always have hope because of what Christmas is about. Jesus came! And he will come again! This is the most amazing gift ever. I'm so thankful we have the opportunity to celebrate this fact with my parents and my children. God is so good.
