Friday was a truly glorious day! I'm used to being at the school with my kids at least a couple of day every week, volunteering or helping out. Except this year, when no one was allowed at the school. Until yesterday. With Track and Field day being outside (and the exciting news Thursday with the CDC announcement that masks are no longer required for vaccinated people), parents were invited to attend! I was so excited!! The forecast had been calling for rain (which would have meant the whole day would be cancelled), so these girls were equally excited when it was a dry day for our outdoor activities! They are ready for FIELD DAY!
Evie's crew was first in the morning and they played all the favorites like "Duck-Duck-Goose" and the sack race (always the most fun when you fall!). . .
. . . Tug-of-war and rock-paper-scissors war.
Mrs. Smith had all sorts of fun games like an egg race, relays around the cones, and trying to keep the ball between friends.
One of the favorite activities is always the parachute. . .
. . . but this year the parachute had some competition for the favorite. Look at this awesome bounce house! Since the kids missed Field Day last year, our PTO decided to make it extra-special this year by renting this ginormous inflatable fun!
This girl had a fantastic day -- and so did her mom! She got to hang out with all of her friends -- and so did her mom! It was truly glorious.
We had lunch and then it was Violet's turn in the afternoon to play all the games and have all the fun! I'm SO thankful for her para, Mr. Colby (who just graduated!). He was a huge help in keeping Violet going all afternoon.
Mrs. Munsell and Mrs. Chandler helped Violet keep the egg on her spoon for the egg race.
And Mrs. Taylor jumped in to help Violet with the sack race. She has SO many people who love her at Wellsville Elementary!
Nora did a GREAT job of staying in step with Miss Vi for the 3-legged race. Amazingly, they never fell down!
Mrs. Chandler jumped in again for the ball race. . .
. . . and then it was time for Violet's favorite: tug-of-war! She is definitely more of an encourager and laugher than a puller. But she LOVES it.
Rock-paper-scissors war with Mack and Carson. . .
. . . and some parachute fun!
Look at these sweet friends! I can't believe this is their final elementary Field Day :(
The grand finale of her final Field Day was the inflatable obstacle course. I didn't think there was any way she could make it through (it finishes with a rope climb of about 10 feet), but Mrs. Chandler was undeterred and went with her to help. I love this lady so much.
Everyone was cheering, "Violet, Violet!" as she finally emerged on the top. As it turned out, it took Mr. Colby joining the fun for her to make it. There she is!
And here she comes! So much cheering and laughter as she came down the slide!
Her "thumbs up" at the end was priceless. Yes, this Field Day definitely gets a thumbs up, Violet girl!
Here's a video to show the excitement. I want to give a huge THANK YOU to Mrs. Smith for all of her work to make the day so special for the kids!
Daddy was even able to sneak away from a super-busy week before Tax Day to cheer on our girl. This Field Day was such a gift. My heart is full!
