I posted a big basketball week for Sydney during her final week of the regular season when she hit the 1000 point mark for her career. Well, her season has now been over for a month, but we still have basketball on the brain! She had two big events this week, with the first being on Wednesday when she had her official signing to play at the collegiate level for Fort Scott Community College. Joy made sure there were plenty of yummy treats for everyone who came out to celebrate.
The signing was over the lunch hour, so Russ was even able to break away from a busy April 11 tax day to be there.
Calvin is at Sydney's school already and I had just finished volunteering in Oliver's class, so he was able to come along also. These boys are sure proud of their cousin!
Coach Campbell gave an overview of Sydney's record-breaking career at WHS, and then the newest Greyhound basketball player signed the papers to make it official!
All of Syd's teammates joined in the celebration. And remember that sheet cake and all of those cookies? Out of 100 servings, there were only 2 pieces left and the cookies were completely gone! Sydney had quite the crowd come out to support her!
I said that Syd had TWO big basketball events this week, and the second one was last night: the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game! Sydney was one of 15 All Stars from Kansas who were matched up against the 15 best players from the Missouri side.
We got there and Violet immediately found her twins in Jack and Bryson.
I think Sydney may have had the largest fan club out of any of the 60 players (boys and girls) in the two games. She had aunts and uncles, grandparents and cousins, friends and teammates all there to cheer her on!
Announcing the line ups, #4 Sydney Dwyer!
It was extra fun that Syd got to play with Abby, one of her teammates from her competitive team.
Sydney played a great game, ending with 6 points, several good assists, and plenty of the hustle she is known for.
I was really proud of Sydney! She totally held her own playing with and against several D1 basketball players. It was a GREAT game, too, actually going into overtime! The girls all played well together and it was such a fun game to watch.
After the game, we all had to get pictures with our favorite All Star. First were her coaches, who were chosen to coach in this game -- what an awesome experience for them!
The cousins all had fun cheering on their oldest cousin.
I'm so proud of this girl! And I can't wait to watch her play her game at the next level!
