Tax Day 2018

Tax Day this year, once again, was delayed past the traditional April 15 because of the weekend and the oh-so-celebrated Emancipation Day (that no-one actually celebrates. especially not the wives of CPAs.)  Anyway, April 17 finally rolled around and we got Daddy back!  We usually go out to dinner on Tax Day, but Russ got off a little later than he was hoping, and the weather was finally turning nice, so we decided to order Taco Tuesdays from Smokeys and take it to the park.
The best part about this plan was that, when we were done eating, we could enjoy the beautiful evening and play!  The kids put Russ to work pushing the merry-go-round. . .
. . . and doing under-doggies on the swings.  The swings at the park go lots higher than the ones at the school!
Wellsville has been under a boil order because there was a valve break at the water tower.  They've been working on it, and the tower looks so funny without its top!
We finished up our playtime with some teeter-tottering.  We had fun seeing who could balance who, and when Calvin stood in the middle, he could really tip the scales!
I'm so thankful that Russ is such a hard worker, but I'm even more thankful when his schedule slows back down again after tax season is over!

Happy 18th, Sydney!

Eighteen years ago, I was over-the-moon excited to welcome this little pumpkin into the world: Sydney Nicole, my double-niece!
She capped off a VERY busy week including her basketball signing, All-Star game, and prom, with her birthday party on her actual birthday, Tax Day!  She actually celebrated early in the morning with her friends at her after-prom, and was going on only a couple hours of sleep for her party that afternoon.
All of the "big girls" were looking a little sleepy, just chillin' on their phones.
And I have no idea how Joy did it, but she managed to make a delicious dinner for everyone after having been at after-prom herself until 4 a.m.!
Sydney got her very first lottery tickets from Uncle Kyle!
And it was kind of hilarious watching all of these kids (plus Scott) try to figure out if any of the tickets were actual winners.
She unwrapped the rest of her gifts, and then it was time for. . .
. . . CAKE!  Eighteen candles burning bright on two cakes for our birthday girl.
Violet sings the loudest when it comes to "Happy Birthday"!

I can't believe our Syd is 18!  I'm so proud of her and thankful for the front row seat I've had to her first 18 years--it's been quite a ride!

Prom 2018

This year's prom was pretty special with Syd being a senior and Jack a junior.  It was also a little bitter-sweet, as it was Sydney's LAST prom. These two are as handsome and beautiful as they come, and I'm so proud to call them mine!
These 5 all feel like my nieces and nephews as they all practically live at Joy and Scott's house.  Aren't they just gorgeous??
My girls LOVED hanging out with all of the beautiful ladies.  Violet, especially, kept screaming at the top of her lungs anytime a car pulled in the driveway.  She was SO excited!  I can't imagine what she'll be like when the time comes for her to actually go to prom!
Violet wanted to be in every picture.
This spring has been so reluctant to actually act like spring.  It's like the never-ending winter. Remember how it snowed on Easter?  Well, here we are, 2 weeks later at prom, and guess what?  Yep, more snow.  Thankfully, it didn't start until a little later in the evening, so we were able to get a few pictures of the beautiful prom-goers outside before-hand.  We had to make it quick, though, because it was still barely 30 degrees outside!  Syd with her handsome date, Elijah, try to quickly put corsages on.
Next up, Jack and Jordan also pretend to be comfortable and warm in the freezing temperatures.
Sydney had invited all of the senior girls to come over for pictures, and I think there ended up being over 50 people at Joy & Scott's house with all of the parents!
See those white specks?  The snow had begun!  These kids were real troopers with the outside pictures.
Cousin shots!
Getting in their cool cars, it was time to head to the nursing home to make a visit.
At the nursing home, the wonderful owner, Scott, let the kids introduce themselves to the residents.  I know everyone loved seeing the kids all dressed up!
Sam works at the nursing home, and took Violet around to visit some of her favorites.  Syd also walked Vi around for awhile.
Of course, we had to visit our favorite, Ammie!  She was excited to see all of these great-great grandkids.  I sure missed getting to visit Virginia.
The prom cruise was up next!  It was a cold and rainy cruise, but thankfully the prom-goers were warm inside their cars.   Elijah and Syd cruised in a cool black Camaro.
There were lots of awesome classic cars this year, including this red beauty Jackson borrowed from a friend at church.
The theme this year was "Out of this World" and they really transformed the school! The girls and I went and checked out the amazing decorations (and warmed up!).

The juniors were given the option of walking inside the gym, but they chose to walk outside.  In the below-freezing temperatures.  They did abbreviate the walk by a couple of blocks, but these crazy kids still walked from Main Street to the school! Notice all of the winter coats and umbrellas in the background.  It's so cool that Syd and Jack were able to walk together this year.
Syd was smart and wore Converse under her gorgeous dress.  I heard many of the other girls complaining of their frozen toes as they entered the high school.
Grandma and Grandpa got a picture with their oldest grandchildren.
This group of kids are ready for the banquet to begin!
I really love these two to the moon and back!
