Evelyn & KJ, One Year Old!

Today we celebrated with Evelyn's almost-birthday-buddy, her cousin KJ!  Both of these precious babies turned a year old last week, and they were treated to an encore smash cake at today's playdate by KJ's mommy, Sheri!
KJ was nearly professional on his demolition of his smash cake last week, so I was hoping he could give Miss-I-don't-want-to-touch-it some pointers.  I think we were successful!
Sweet little chubby hands digging in!
Once they lost interest in the actual eating of the cake, KJ continued by taunting Evelyn with his chocolate-covered fingers.  It was quite hilarious.

And the torture continued when we tried to get them all clean in the bathtub.  I think Evelyn is DONE with the whole cake on the face thing.
We've had so much fun with our September 20 and 21 babies this past year!  Here's a little picture collage showing how they've grown through the months.  I can't wait to watch as they continue to grow up together!

Some-buggy is ONE! And Rockin' Her Way to FOUR!

This weekend we had a huge birthday bash to celebrate the two princesses who reside at the Dwyer household!
So Violet didn't get her own invitation, but she did for her first birthday so don't go feeling too sorry for her.  I always make sure to have invites for 1st birthdays, but after that, there are no promises.  Anyway, so Miss Evelyn had a Ladybug theme for her party and as for Miss Violet?  She is still totally into guitars, so we went with a Super Star theme for our Super-Vi!
Here is the cake table, with not one, not 2, but 3 cakes for our special girls (gotta have the "smash cake" for our big 1 year old).
Grandma Cheryl really outdid herself for this party!  Have you ever seen a guitar cake before?? I hadn't, either.
Violet rockin' out on her guitar before the guests arrive -- How is she going to deal with the fact that this guitar is a pinata??
Once all of our guests had arrived, dinner was served.  We were blessed with another beautiful fall day and took advantage of it by dining outside.

As usual, Evelyn is mooching off of everyone she can, and as usual, Grandma Virginia can't say no to her sweet face!
There's a table of c-r-a-z-y kids there!
Once everyone had their fill, it was time for presents -- Do these birthday girls look excited or what?!?
They got so many wonderful things!

The funniest thing might have been that Aunt Sara got Violet a little doll stroller, and Aunt Dana got Evelyn the exact same little doll stroller!  Trust me, we'll need both of them.  These girls aren't exactly willing to share a toy this cool.
Without further ado, lets cut that cake!  Here's the crew ready to sing Happy Birthday!
After the cake was cut, the kids took turns swinging at the pinatas, first Evie's lady bug (handmade by Grandma Cheryl -- the woman is talented, I tell you.)
And it's busted!  A mad dash for the candy ensued.
Next up, Violet's Rock Star guitar.  Syd and Jack let the little kids do the destroying on the little pinata, and were ready to go to town on this big one.  And notice Syd's hat?  Ya, I think Uncle John needs to get her a matching hat to the one he got Violet. . .
Unfortunately, the pinata broke before the big kids had their chance!  Jackson was so disappointed that he didn't get to Louisville Slugger on the guitar.
The final "event" of the night -- the Main Event, even -- was Evelyn with her smash cake.  Here we go, sports fans!
It took a little prompting to get her going. . .
But she wasn't all that interested.  I thought for sure she would go to town on the cake, but not so much!
What is it you want me to do??
Sydney even offered to give her a visual of just how tasty the cake was.
But our baby girl wanted no part of it.
It's my party and I'll cry if I want to!  At least no one paid admission to this main event.
So everyone else just ate her cake instead. . .
. . . which she was perfectly okay with.
What a wonderful day of celebrating these two extra special little girls.

I didn't know if I would ever have a daughter, and now I have 2!  I am so blessed by these precious gifts from God and I thank him every day that I get to be their mommy.

Duck Soup Double Header

Last Sunday, I got to play a "Duck Soup" softball double-header, first against Oliver and the rest of the Kindergarten-1st graders, followed by Calvin and the 2nd-3rd grade team.  It was sponsored by the high school FBLA and they made it so much fun for the moms and the kids!
First up was Oliver and the younger boys.  The FBLA members kept score and supposedly the boys beat us moms so bad they wouldn't even post the final!  What they didn't mention is that they made us poor moms bat left-handed and wear our gloves on our right hands!  Have you ever tried to put a ball glove on the wrong hand?? It's extremely awkward, to say the least.

We got to play an inning of kickball, where we were allowed to throw the ball at the other players for outs.  This is where the intensity really came out!
Can you believe my sweet Oliver threw the ball at me??
Good games, boys!
Next up was the big boys, and they had to do some serious warm-ups to get ready for the ol' moms!
They got their instructions from Rott (who was my FBLA sponsor in high school and still a great friend!), and we were ready to play ball!

According to the "official" scorekeepers, the final on this one was 24-8 in favor of the Sons.  That score still sounds a bit suspicious to me, though.  I love any excuse to hang out with my two favorite little men, and the Mom-Son Duck Soup softball will definitely be an event we will do again!
