Halloween Night

In attempts to keep my boys interested in dressing up as a family for Halloween, I let them pick the theme. They chose the Chiefs. . .which I thought was pretty boring. I mean, seriously, there were going to be a gajillion Patrick Mahomes strolling around for sure.  But then, Russ mentioned how much Violet resembles Andy Reid. . . and I was sold.  I mean, COME ON.
She even had a laminated play sheet that Russ made -- GET CANDY!
Calvin wanted to be Kelce, Oliver was a natural at the Mahomes position and Evelyn made the sweetest little cheerleader.
Oh, and Russ and I made sure everyone played by the rules!  Thankfully, there weren't too many penalties.  I'm so thankful to do life with Russ who is such a great husband and father.  When Calvin asked me how long he's going to have to dress up for Halloween, I answered him, "Well, Daddy is 41, soo. . ."
We started our evening at Grandpa Denny and Grandma Jo's, where the kids are always spoiled rotten with lots of goodies.
Of course the boys had to get a little actual football in before we left -- Mahomes to Kelce for the TD!
Our next stop was just next door at Aunt Rosemary and Uncle Ronnie's.  I always love getting to visit with them!
I'm thankful my kiddos are good sports about pictures -- Fall harvest is in full force right now and I wanted to get a pic with these beans before they are cut.
Next we headed to Grandma Shirley and Grandpa Evan's, where we were treated with Grandma's world-famous snickerdoodles.
I'm so thankful for these grandparents!  Please say a prayer for Grandpa Evan who suffered a stroke later that evening and is currently recovering in the hospital.
After leaving Grandma and Grandpa's, we headed to Larry & Janine's.  I think this is the first time they've ever been home on Halloween, so we were excited to get to see them!
Violet loves her Uncle Larry!
Our final house to stop at was Aunt Jannie and Uncle Wolfie.  The kids were excited to see their grandson Barrett, but I'm not sure the feeling was mutual.
I was just excited to get my hands on some of Jannie's party mix!
As if the kids hadn't filled their buckets enough, we still had trick-or-treating to do at the nursing home!
It was REALLY cold this year, which makes the nursing home all the better -- no frozen fingers or toes in this warm place! And I love how all of the residents dress up each year; it makes it so fun for everyone.
Our sweet Ammie was handing out candy as always -- love you, Ammie!
Violet met up with some of her friends from the Rockford Peaches, as well as an adorable KC Wolf!
Evie also met up with some adorable Rockford baseball players.
They always have great photo ops in the "big room", along with refreshments and movies to watch.  We really do have THE BEST nursing home!
I was thankful Aunt Joy came along to help keep Violet close by during our trick-or-treating -- it can get a bit crazy in there.
And Evie ran into a couple more friends as we were leaving.  It's so fun seeing all of the kids dressed up!
At this point, temperatures were approaching freezing and we had enough candy to last a year, so we decided to call it quits.  The boys wanted to be dropped off downtown to hang out with their friends for a bit before the final home football game of the season.  They were able to take a couple of tours through the haunted house that was set up in the vacant pharmacy building. I know they had a great time! (I love how Oliver took off his Mahomes "hair" but left the knee bandage in place -- yes, he was the only Mahomes I saw that evening who was authentic with a knee injury.)
The rest of us finished up our evening hanging out at Grandma Cheryl and Grandpa Kermit's.  Usually we help hand out candy, but it was so cold this year that there just weren't very many trick-or-treaters out and about.
When we got home for the night, Evie and I had some fun playing around with SnapChat filters before bed.
Halloween 2019 is in the books -- another fun and memorable day!
Now to start thinking about next year's theme. . .

Pumpkin Carving and School Parties

We got our pumpkins carved just in time for Halloween.  The boys worked hard while Evie and I supervised.
The finished products looked pretty good!
Evelyn and I did a different pumpkin project this year using small pumpkins, nail polish and a bowl of water.  This was so easy and they turned out really pretty!

I have them sitting on my island with the beautiful flowers my momma got me.  She knows this time of year is rough as I remember our sweet baby Christian, and these flowers have certainly helped to brighten my days.
On Halloween morning, we got Evie's drinks all ready for her party at school. . .
. . . and got these girls ready to their fun day!  It's crazy that I only had two elementary parties this year -- first time in 6 years that I wasn't "pod-hopping" all afternoon.
This Halloween was unique because. . . SNOW!  These pictures were taken at the high school when we dropped the boys off in the morning.  It was really beautiful!
And here are our jack-o-lanterns just chillin' on the back deck.
Evelyn's party was first and they played lots of fun games. . .
. . . and ate lots of fun snacks. . .
. . . and played more fun games.  The mummy game is a classic.
They all had a chance to be the mummy, even Mrs. Rolin!
Such fun at my favorite 1st grader's party!
Next we headed to Violet's room.  She had been begging for caramel apples, so that was our contribution to the party fare.
They played a fun game in the pod, throwing pumpkins into a bucket tied around a friend's waist. . .
. . . but Violet was more interested in sitting with the little sisters who had come to visit.
It was a great day partying it up with our girls at school!
