Our VBS format for "Miraculous Mission: Jesus Saves the World" was a little different this year. We used to always do the traditional week long VBS when my kids were all younger; these first two summers after Covid, we've done a one-day Rally Sunday event; this year, we did a summer-long VBS on Sunday mornings during Sunday School AND a one-day Rally Sunday event. It's been great! The theme was fun and we learned about events in the Bible from creation to Jesus' ascension. The first week was about "God Made the Universe" and we learned all about the creation story. We love getting out the big, amazing animals to show God's creativity!
Our craft was made using old bulletin covers and they turned out really pretty!

The second lesson was "God Keeps His Word" and we learned about Abraham and Sarah.
We read about how their descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky! And we played a fun relay game with a "galaxy" and lots of "stars, comets, and asteroids" to find with tongs. I love how the big boys played right alongside the littles.
We moved on to the New Testament with "God Promises a Savior." We made some cool homemade sticker crafts with this one.Our big classroom had been decorated all summer (as you can see in the previous pics), but we got the Activity Center looking space-y for our one-day event this weekend.
Evie brought Maggie and Charli this year, and along with Kyla, the girls had so much fun! Once again, I led the opening/closing music. This is always my favorite!
Miriam and Sheri led the Bible Storytelling, and this lesson was "Jesus Reigns" and we learned about Jesus' ascension in the book of Acts.Lunch is always a favorite time of our VBS, and we are so thankful to have our wonderful Amy, Barb, and Deb making everything delicious for us! And I surprised the kids with a special treat: Astronaut Ice Cream! I remember having this freeze-dried ice cream as a kid and it's so fun!
There were some fun crafts to be made with finger-painted crosses and watercolors of the resurrection.
Brynnie even convinced Violet to make a cross.Of course, no VBS would be complete without some intense games! The Youth did a great job of leading (and playing).
By the closing, Evie and her friends had officially taken over leading the music, which is my favorite!
It was a great day -- and entire summer -- of learning about God's Miraculous Mission to save the world through Jesus! I'm so thankful for Miriam, who taught our kids all summer! And I'm so thankful for my family and all of our VBS memories through the years. I can't believe this is technically Evie's last year of VBS :( We will always help with VBS, but it's a little bittersweet to know my kids are done with this season. But what wonderful memories we will always have, having fun and learning about Jesus during summer vacation!
